Wasm Day at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe 2022

Profian is attending KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe, in Valencia, Spain. Around 7500 attendees from across the world are participating.

Profian is a Gold sponsor of Wasm Day, a co-located event in its third edition, bringing together the WebAssembly community specially interested in using Wasm on the server-side.

The event started off with a keynote from Bailey Hayes, who offered an overview of the Wasm landscape and where it's heading. Several talks highlighted the progress in WebAssembly support by many programming languages: Steve Sanderson, Michael Yuan, Saul Cabrera, and Ron Evans talked about .Net, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, and Go. A common theme was the need for WASI to evolve. WASI is the WebAssembly System Interface, and is key to pushing WebAssembly beyond the browser - from the Cloud to the Edge. One particular area that needs attention is WASI networking, which was the main topic covered by Profian's CTO Nathaniel McCallum. The Profian team has contributed upstream on this regard, in particular the implementation of sock_accept(), and is helping to advance WASI networking.

Nathaniel also announced the Cryptle Hack Challenge, with the goal uncovering vulnerabilities in the Enarx project.

Other talks covered WebAssembly use for IoT, Games, Streaming, Edge Computing, Envoy, Kubernetes, and Content Management Systems, demonstrating that WebAssembly not only has a bright future on the client-side, but a huge potential on the server-side as well.

Finally, attendees also celebrated the 5th Anniversary of WebAssembly, with cupcakes and refreshments, as well as an invitation to share milestones to the WebAssembly timeline. The future of WebAssembly looks very bright indeed and Profian is happy to be part of that!
